Freegans employ alternative strategies for living based on limited participation in the conventional economy and minimal consumption of resources. We embrace community, generosity, social concern, freedom, cooperation, and sharing; in opposition to a society based on materialism, moral apathy, competition, conformity, and greed. And we do it in Uptown Manhattan.

We go to museums, architecture tours, gallery crawls; to see foreign and independent films; to hear live jazz, blues or indie rock, or opera; go walking, hiking, cycling, camping, and rock climbing; go to play readings; and have book discussions and picnics.
